In fall of 2013, the Asian Health Coalition collaborated with Project Vision to provide an opportunity for youth to gain leadership and technical skills with computer and video editing. The Teen Advisory Panel created two Digital Storytelling videos. One was called the “Be Smart, Don’t Start”, involving voice overs of deadly consequences from starting tobacco. The other is called “Derek’s Life: How Smoking Changed My Life”, where the narrator’s family member became impacted by the harms of secondhand smoke. These videos encourage youth, similar to themselves, to abstain from tobacco use due the the negative effects from secondhand smoke and conditions like asthma.
The stories depicted may not be based on true events. Students were allowed to express their creativity throughout the entire video making process.
