Today, March 29, 2016, President Barack Obama will speak at the National Rx Drug Abuse and Heroin Summit in Atlanta, Georgia at 1:30 PM-2:45 PM Central Time. The annual summit, brings together some of the nations, greatest leaders that are tackling the national prescription drug abuse and heroin epidemic ravishing the US.
The President, in his final year in office, has made this epidemic, one of his top priorities. He recently put forth a $1.1 Billion request in new funding for treatment of opioid abuse. The Centers for Disease Control also just recently announced new guideline recommendations for prescribing opioid medications for chronic pain. This is to make sure that Primary Care providers do not over-prescribe these strong, powerful, and highly addictive medications.
Over the years, CASAP has seen, and have raised concerns, about the rising issue of prescription drug misuse in Chicago’s Chinatown Youth. CASAP fully supports the President’s initiatives that he’s put in place to tackle the issue, and is delighted to see him come out and speak publicly on the issue, at the Summit.
