CASAP was formed in 2007 as a means to address youth substance abuse, after a needs, resource, and readiness assessment was conducted in Chinatown and surrounding neighborhoods of Armour Square and Bridgeport.

CASAP is currently funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) through their Strategic Prevention Framework – State Incentive Grant (SPF-SIG).  The Asian Health Coalition (AHC) is the fiscal agent for this grant.

The mission of the Coalition for Asian Substance Abuse Prevention (CASAP) is to prevent substance abuse among Asian youth in Chicago through —building community partnerships and capacity —assessing the needs and resources of the community — strategic planning —implementing and evaluating culturally appropriate prevention strategies for awareness, advocacy, and education.

The vision of the coalition is to reduce rates of substance use and abuse among Asian youth and adults.
